digital marketing tools, online marketing toolsFree SEO Tools, Tips & Resources to Help Any Local Small Business Owner

Through my 10 plus years of working in SEO in Austin and around Texas, I’ve run across many free or very affordable resources to improve SEO for local small businesses without the aid of an SEO expert, if you’re interested in doing that.

Most of these tools and resources are free, but some, like other lists I have, are free versions of a paid SEO tool. For the small business owner, the free version of any SEO resource is usually just fine, but in some cases you’ll need to use the paid version. As you mature through the use of these different resources, you’ll learn which paid tools are best for you.

To that point, I’ve provided this list of helpful free SEO tools and resources (most of them are free) in a convenient list below, along with a brief description.

Let me know if you have any questions about any one I’ve listed.

Check out these Free SEO Resources Below:

  • Google Algorithm Update History by MOZ

  • Ubersuggest, Neil Patel’s Keyword Tool. Like Search Console and Google Analytics, it’s not always the most accurate, but it provides a ton of great info, and its free

  • Frontburner Marketing SEO FAQ – I put together this list of SEO questions that I’ve received over the years. In fact, I keep building this list as I get more questions! Feel free to submit your own, and I’ll do my best to answer it.

  • Word Counter.net This is a great resource for creating SEO copy, writing metadescriptions (you only have about 160 CHARACTERS -not words- before your message won’t be seen on a common SERP page.

  • SEO META in 1 Click – This is a great Chrome SEO Extension that allows you to analyze any page for all SEO Meta data, analyze mobile friendly status, page load speed, and other critical SEO factors.

  • Spark Content Optimizer – This is another great Chrome SEO extension that is more focused on content. Awesome amount of information available at a glance.

  • Fatrank Rank Checker – As the title says, this is a Chrome SEO Extension that checks ranks. What makes it cool is that it sits in your extension bar and will check the rank of any page you’re on. Google WILL BLOCK searches if you search too many, but you can check 4 or 5 a few times a day and you should not have a problem. Added Value: you can export what you’ve found in a csv if you want, which is great.
  • Keywords Everywhere – This is a great tool that aggregates TONS of keyword data on any search page on Google….for FREE! It’s invaluable, and I use it at least 10 times per day. You not only get the list of keywords on the right side of your SERP page, you also will get how much exact traffic your keyword gets (listed right under the search query box on Google). I love this SEO tool!

UPDATE!! Keywords everywhere went to a paid tool as of October 1, 2019. It’s still a killer deal, but it is no longer free. You get something like 100,000 credits for only 10 bucks, so you’re still going to get a ton of SEO value for a few bucks.
